. ,
• MEMO TO: Mr. Donald F. Paule •ty 'd i I .tr. or
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, D1,_.. J
Parks , Recreation an. o-try f
DATE: March 25, 1981
RE: Monthly report, February, 1981
After reviewing our departments work schedule for the month of February, 1981,
we would like to report the following highlights for your edification:
RECREATION
The major social event for our recreation division in February was, of course,
the marriage of Mary Kvalheim to Carl Saarion, Assistant Parks and Recreation
Director in Shoreview.
In general the month of February was a mid-point for the majority of the Winter programs.
• As you recall , the 1980-81 winter was very mild and the ice skating season ended
early due to the warm weather.
Energy Week was February 16 - 20 and special event programs were planned every day.
Of the five days, three activities were planned in the great out-of-doors including:
Sliding, skiing, and boot hockey -- all of which were cancelled due to lack of snow
and ice. The movie Battlestar Galactica was successful with over 300 youth attending
the two showings. The rollerskating excursion also drew a full crew of energetic
youth.
Saturday Movie Matinees began in February and ran for five weeks. This program is
especially popular because Mounds View does not have a theater close-by. The movies
are held in the City Hall lower level , 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and cost is $1.00/person in-
cluding popcorn and pop.
Mary Saar-ion attended two Festival in the Park Committee meetings and they are now
• notifying possible entertainers , arranging times, dates and securing committments .
Also, the Ramsey County showmobile has been reserved and a bid for electrical outlets
has been developed. Plans for the event are well under way and this planning stage
is the beginning stages for the days festivities .
