Letter to the Editor:
SUPPORT THE PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE IN MOUNDSVIEW
The City Council of Mounds View is currently discussing a proposed pedestrian bridge
over Highway 10 at Long Lake Road. This would be a community development that
would benefit citizens of all ages, from Youth to Senior Citizens, from joggers to
bicyclst's, anyone who would like to cross Highway 10 in any mode other than an
automobile. This is an enhancement to the community that we can not afford to let pass
by, especially since we have a$480,000 grant to cover the majority of the cost.
The City Council is hesitant to use funds set aside for community development, because they
are not sure this would help the community??? The city would need to contribute $120,000 to
fulfill their portion of the grant requirements. The city has a fund set aside for community
developement, call TIF. NO TAX DOLLARS ARE NEEDED.
Please show your support for the Pedestrian Bridge by letting the City Council know
that this is a community enhancement that is badly needed. Each year, there are several
dangerous mishaps as people try to cross Highway 10 on foot or bicycle. Talk to
council members, phone them, write them letters or even better, come to the City
Council Meeting on August 7th to voice your opinion for the Pedestrian Bridge.
Pam Starr
Mounds View Park and Recreation Commitee
