MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Staff
DATE: September 22, 1982
RE: Policy regarding outside programs
During the past two years, our department has been inundated with
numerous companies, agencies and individuals who have formed companies
to provide recreation programs/activities. We have kept our use of
these firms or agencies to a minimum during the past two years as we
have found that it' s been more equitable for our department
to hire and train our own staff rather than go with outside agencies
or special programming groups .
We have found a number of program areas where it has been beneficial
to hire a firm or agency to provide us instructors and staff to teach
a specific special interest group and it has proven to be extremely
beneficial to our department as well as to the residents who participate
• in these programs.
There currently are five programs which we are offering in the Fall
where we have hired basically two firms for the use of their instructors.
The five programs are as follows:
1 . Jazz Exercise
2. Fun, Fit, and Fantastic
3. Jazz-Dancercise
4. Protect Yourself
5. Weight Control
The Jazz Exercise, Protect Yourself, and Weight Control programs are
run by a gentleman named Paul Gibson and his firm. The Fun, Fit, and
Fantastic and Jazz-Dancercise programs are coordinated by the Community
Dance Theater. We currently have arrangements with these two firms
whereby we coordinate and handle all the registrations and school permits ,
etc. , for their program and they in turn provide instructors and assist
111 us with promotional material in exchange for a per registrant cost
averaging from $1 .00 to $3.00 per registrant.
