MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Director
Parks, Recreation and Forestry
DATE: September 22, 1982
RE: Parking Lot Alternatives
Staff has enclosed a copy of an article entitled "Perforated Paving
Block", which staff feels have a very feasible application within the
City' s park system. As we do not have a great deal of heavy traffic
in our existing and proposed parking lot areas , staff feels that the
concept of perforated paving blocks allowing turf to grow up in between
the block areas to give much more of a green look would be extremely
more aesthetic and more pleasing than a black paved parking lot.
Obvious advantages of the perforated paving blocks are listed in the
enclosed brochure; as they range from aesthetics to air quality, site
amenities, energy efficient, water quality and also water quantity.
• With the existing storm water run-off problems that the City is experienc-
ing , the concept of perforated paving blocks would be a welcome addition
to the City 's park system when we reach the point of finalizing or dis-
cussing the concept of developing paved parking lot. It should be noted
that this is strictly an information item at this time, to be kept in
the back of each of our heads. Should you have any questions, feel free
to contact staff at extension no. 41 .
BKA/sll
