MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission 410 FROM: Staff DATE: June 26 , 1985 RE: Monthly Staff Update JUNE , 1985 The following issues and programs are outlined to provide the Commission with a better overview of our department' s day to day operation . Each of the listed items are strictly information oriented and not intended for formal Commission action . 1 . Park Vandalism - We have experienced some severe park vandal- ism once again at Silver View Park during the past two weeks. The damage included the loss of 12 flowering crabs on top of the amphitheater and also two blue spruce had the top 5 feet snapped off of them. We have taken pictures of the damage and will be placing an article in the local newspaper to attempt to bring more public notice to this issue . 1111 2 . City Composting Site - We have made available a key for the City composting site so that people can come in and pick up compost throughout the summer now that the site is closed for the year . Although we haven' t had a great number of requests for this service , it appears to be beneficial , and we will be advertising it in future newsletters to let people know compost can be secured throughout the year . 3. J .P.T.A. Crew - The City has submitted and once again receiv- ed approval for the summer J .P.T.A. Grant program. We cur- rently have nine young people working under the grant program and as in the past years , it is hard to imagine trying to maintain our current level of services without their assis- tance . We have found the young people to be extremely cooper- ative and skilled in the areas they are working in and feel fortunate to have them as a part of our staff . One of the strongest assets of the J.P.T.A. program has been the addi- tion of Deanna Mortenson , who is returning to assist us in the clerical division for the fifth consecutive year.
