1984 GYPSY MOTH EGG MASS SURVEY
•
The gypsy moth, a serious defoliator of trees , may have been
accidentally introduced into your community . Moths were collected
in traps this past summer in your area. As a follow-up, state and
federal personnel are conducting a survey to detect egg masses of
the gypsy moth. This involves 2 or more people checking homeowner ' s
outside property : all trees , picnic tables , lawn chairs , trailers ,
etc . It is important to survey all property to provide information
to establish likely introduction points of the gypsy moth.
If you were not home we are sorry we missed you and hope this
explains why we were on your property.
The following will answer some of your questions :
Q. How did the gypsy moth get into my neighborhood?
A. Most likely as a hitchhiker as eggs attached to something that
has been in the eastern United States such as a camper trailer
or yard furniture, etc .
Q. What if the gypsy moth is found in my yard?
A. There is no cause for alarm. Population levels are likely
still low enough not to cause immediate damage to trees and
shrubs in your yard .
1111 Q. Does this mean pesticides will be sprayed over my property next
year?
A . Control options will be decided later after all the results
are in .
5 pairs
-t-
r blue spots
 0 j
:JOIR5CC
6 pairs A
red spots • .i
Larvae (Caterpillar) Male Adult Gypsy Moth Female Gypsy Moth
This stage found during This stage found during This stage found during
months May - June. months July - August. months July - August.
If you have any further questions please call one cf the following :
MN Dept . of Agriculture or U.
