T:;
P
14/
/10 0 OUi Vi
e
RAMSEY COUNTY,MINNESOTA
GATEWAY TO THE NORTH 2401 HIGHWAY 10
MOUNDS VIEW,MINN.55112
784-3055
11 January 5, 1987
Ramsey Y Count y Sheriff' s Department
3401 Rice St .
St. Paul, MN 55112
Good Day:
A resident of Mounds View came to me today to express a great concern
regarding the number of three-wheel vehicles frequenting the Ramsey
County Rice Creek Open Space which IS located behind the Townsedge
Terrace Mobile Home Park. This resident was very concerned about the
harm to wildlife that these vehicles pose . Evidently deer, fox
• rabbits, minks, beavers , racoons , and other wildlife inhabit this
area. The trail along Rice Creek is an excellent place for hiking
especially for persons who wish to observe nature. However, the
three-wheel vehicles are damaging the foliage, seedlings, and terrain
of this nature area.
For these reasons, I ask that the Ramsey County Sheriff' s Department
consider means to curb this vehicle use. If "No Vehicles Permitted"
signs are approved, the City could easily post the area. Perhaps
frequent checks by patrolmen or rangers could be made in an effort to
curb this vehicle activity.
Your response to ways to preserve this fine natural open space would
be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
War..:::: ;;W*--e?-~o't._.1
Mary Saarion, Director
Parks , Recreation and Forestry
MS/sl
•
