Our work
was requested by Fred Haas, of Mary Anderson Construction on October
27, 1986. The scope of work we were requested to perform consisted of
the following:
1. Observe the completed mass excavation for the proposed
• tennis courts.
2. Perform shallow hand auger borings to explore localized
subsurface soil conditions.
3. Judge whether the exposed soils are suitable for support
of the proposed tennis court fill/surfacing system.
4. Perform a mechanical analysis of an on-site soil sample
and provide a judgment whether the fill would be adequate
for placement below the tennis court.
It is our understanding the construction in progress is for a tennis
court to be located at the northeast corner of the intersection at
Groveland Road and Arden Avenue in Mounds View, Minnesota. The court
is to be approximately 110' x 110' in plan dimension with top of slab
elevation approximately at the existing grade.
According to preliminary soil boring report (#120-11987) performed by
us, the report recommended removing the compressible organic and highly
frost susceptible soils from within the tennis court area. This would
include removing a minimum 5' oversize beyond the edge of the court.
After the unsuitable soils have been removed, the report recommended
placing a controlled compacted granular fill to subgrade elevation. In
addition, the report recommended that the fill be a non-frost
• susceptible sand fill having less than 50% passing the #40 sieve and
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
