CURRENT RECREATION ACTIVITIES
Pre-school Program
S
The Fall recreation program offered four new programs. One is a morning
activity program for pre-school ages. Willy/Tilly's are 2-1/2 - 3 year olds
and Fox and Geesers are the 4 and 5 year olds. The program is held at
Groveland Park shelter from 9:30 a.m. - 11 :00 a.m. on Tuesdays and and
Wednesdays. The program has 13 participants. The Groveland shelter has been
a great cozy place for this program and they make good use of the Groveland
Park playground. Because the shelter will be used for a skating facility
beginning in December, the program will be transferred to Edgewood Community
Center for the Winter months.
After School Program
The after school activities offered at Pinewood and Sunnyside Schools are also
new. There are 56 participants in this program and include the following
activities: Holiday crafts, flag football , Performing People Pleasers,
volleyball , floor hockey and no cook snacks. The program was initiated
because of the perceived needs and verbal requests of two working parent
families. The goal of the program is to offer a fun, organized, safe and
supervised program for children who ordinarily would have to come home from
school to an empty home. Although this program is not a break-even program at
this time, it is anticipated that with a year of initiation, it will become
an established program in which parents can rely for after school activity
and supervision for their children.
Nutrition and Exercise
• The Nutrition and Exercise programs is a one-time class which is targeted
towards two special populations; pregnant women and senior citizens.
Recognizing the need to remain active and fit during these life stages,
special nutrition and exercise information is offered at each class.
Splash Special
Splash specials is a new aquatics program designed to offer a fun party-like
activity in the pool with a theme (Halloween) games and activities. The
corporate swimming program has escalated to include Medtronics and Onan
employees. These employees come at various lap swim times and have the
opportunity to use coupons for a price reduction.
Halloween Carnival
The Halloween activity this year will be co-sponsored by "Women of Today".
About twenty game booths will be set up in the community room at City Hall .
These booths will be manned by volunteers from both the Women of Today
organization and Fare Share participants. Each reward for participation will
be a piece of candy. Participants must have some sort of a costume. This
event is designed to attract children 2-12 years old and is flexible in cost.
Fifteen tickets will buy 15 tickets and each booth will cost one ticket.
Everyone will be a winner and 1t is hoped that this event will be a safe and
fun Halloween activity.
•
