August 17, 1986
TO: Bruce Anderson, Director
Parks, Recreation and Forestry
City of Mounds View
2401 Highway 10
Mounds View, Minnesota 55112
FROM: Donald 0. Peterson
2341 Oakwood Drive
Mounds View, Minnesota 55112
Dear Mr. Anderson,
We wish to thank you and your Department, and also Mr. Thatcher, for your
prompt action on improving the existing path adjacent to my house, north
to Knoll Drive. I delayed answering your letter until I had interviewed
some of the young people and adjacent property owners of what they thought
of the improvement. I also waited until we had a good rain to see how the
water run off would be. I wish to report that the culvert is working super.
It is really a treat to be able to walk the path after a rain and not have
to walk through mud and water. The walkers and joggers think the wood chips
are a great improvement. The bicyclers, dirt bikes, three-wheeler and go-
carts like the culvert and dirt fill, but are indifferent about the wood
chips. The chips and dirt have not, as yet, packed down and are a little
spongy, making it a little difficult to travel the path the speed they would
like. Even with the wood chips slow down, they all think the improvement is
great. We realize fixing the washout on the street was a big project. I now
111/1 feel the repairs are such that the road will not cave in on Knoll Drive.
Again, I wish to thank you for making the path enjoyable and convenient to
use.
In your letter, you asked me for suggestions on how we might improve the
path. In long range planning, here are some of my suggestions:
1. Add dirt fill along the easement on the west side of my property
to make the path go straight north and not turn and curve up to
the high ground on my property.
2. Add some more dirt fill north of the culvert on the City property
and have the path go alongside of Mr. Sullivan's property. I am
not too sure that he approves of the path where it goes through
the corner of his property.
3. At some time in the future, after No. 1 and No. 2 suggestions have
been completed, I would like to have the path coated with asphalt.
Thank you again for your prompt action.
Sincerly yours,
J .,
