-2-
5. Community Education Advisory Council . I attended a two day 4111
training session at Madden ' s Resort on Monday and Tuesday,
June 23 and 24 which outlined the future role of community
education . Staff will be providing a brief verbal update as
to the highlights of the meeting.
6. Beach operations. We have been experiencing extremely high
attendance at Lakeside Park during the past two weeks due to
the warm weather. With the warm weather, we have had pro-
blems relating to drinking and drug consumption, along with
pool water quality. Based on my conversations with DNR, the
poor water has made for increased incidences of swimmer' s
itch, as well as higher weed levels which is due to the early
freeze we had in the winter of 1985 which did not allow the
aquatic growth to complete their normal cycle .
7 . Computer equipment. The City' s new computer system was
delivered two weeks ago , and we will be attending staff
training sessions the first week in July to learn how to
operate it. Our department will have two terminals including
a stand alone unit, as well as a terminal that will interface
with the mainframe . We are excited about these improvements 4111
and look forward to improved community service as we move
into the "computer age" .
8. Budgeting. Staff is currently immersed in the 1987 budgeting
process , as we hope to have a rough draft for the City Coun-
cil to review at their first meeting in July. It appears
that money will be tight once again in the City as Federal
revenue sharing funds have been eliminated , and cutbacks in
State aid appear to be eminent.
BKA/sll
Enclosure
•
III
