MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
1111 FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Director
Parks, Recreation and Forestry
DATE: June 25, 1985
RE: Monthly staff update - June , 1986
The following issues and programs are outlined to provide the
Commission with an overview of our department ' s day to day opera-
tion . Each of the listed items are strictly informational and
not intended for formal Commission action.
1 . Puppet wagon truck. The City has purchased a new puppet
wagon from Care Heating and Air Conditioning. The vehicle
is a 1981 one ton step van which will be used during the
remainder of the year in the water and sewer department as an
emergency vehicle. We are excited about having a new puppet
wagon , as the existing vehicle is in extremely poor condi-
tion .
• 2. "Arts in the Park" . We had our second "Arts in the Park"pro-
gram on Tuesday, June 24, 1986 at Silver View Park. The
Eclectic Co. performed , and it was attended by approximately
35 - 50 residents. We feel the program is a very positive
addition to our existing programming efforts and hope to have
this item placed in the budget permanently in 1987.
3. Community Theater project. Enclosed is a flyer outlining the
"Music Man" production which we will be doing during the
month of July. We have been actively involved in rehearsals
during the past six weeks, and are very excited to follow up
on our success last year with "Oklahoma" . It is our desire
to have the Community Theater program become self-sufficient
in 1987 and we are hoping for a positive financial success
again so that the group will be able to work on their own
without City financial assistance .
4. Park maintenance. We have been fortunate to get eight
J. P. T.A. employees once again during the summer of 1986.
They began work on Thursday, June 10, 1986 . The program, is
working well , and we will be concentrating on three major
projects including chipping of the trail at Silver View,
painting of the City hockey boards , and installation of new
playground equipment.
