1110
Hay 21 , 19116
Dear Parent:
I an looking forward to this season of
Superball. I hope to see the same fun and enthusiasm
the kids have displayed in T-ball and 0--ball.
Part of my coaching kit from the city includes a
number of articles on youth sports. Rather than let
the information sit in a folder, where it will do no
one any good, I 'd like to share a few passages from
various authors.
--- Studies show kids care little about winning or
losing. (Ninety-five per cent would rather have fun. )
When your child comes home from a game leave out the
automatic question, "Did you win?" The trophies are
for the parents.
---- Sports psychologists are not so concerned with
the small percentage of parents who go berserk at
• games, rather, it's the little comments like "flow
come you dropped that ball?" and "If you really get
out there and concentrate, you could play a lot
better. "
--- The guiding principle for parents: Nothing in
your behavior should detract from FNNY child's
enjoyment of the sport.
--- Sports give kids a chance to improve, to feel
good about what they are doing and to get a sense of
enjoyment and accomplishment.
----- Remember, they are still children and they just
want to play and have fun.
I 'll make my share of mistakes this season, but
I promise to be fair to all the players. I will
insist on their attention. It's important to the
team and to their safety. If there is a problem,
NFTER a game or practice is the time to talk about
it, not before. I 'll be happy to discuss it with you
then.
Sincere].
C L
• Fl:ez 1-
Frank Hazzocco
Coach
