The Board was informed that Metro Council has acknowledged receipt of a grant request for development of parks at the 29th Avenue and Vermont sites . b . A letter from First Lutheran Church of Columbia Heights was read. The letter requests avoidance of scheduled athletic contests and practices on Sunday mornings . Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Dahl that the Depal•tmc;;lt • respond, assuring compliance and also referring the letter to local athletic associations . Motion carrid: 5 - 0. '1. Unfinished Business a. Policy for Park Land Use - Residents from the Apac:,e :hili area were in attendance todiscuss the usitgbosammoimilmlie nu' ter with the Board. They e.:pres=ed opposition to any potentia; filling or intensive use of the area. The residents suggested that they be allowed to continue to use the land as they are presently u5ing, it. It wcv e •plE,Ined that while this is not possible, tLa City woul•l like to work with them to arrive at an acceptable policy. [to i.on by Dahl, seconded by Cook to recommend that the City Coune.tl adopt the following rule3 on a one-year trial: 1 . Trees may be planted with the Park and Recreation Depart•nent 's permission. 2. Turf areas may be landscaped and maintained with Pay.':/: and Recreation Department 's permission. :;.
