III <br /> January 30 , 1986 <br /> Mounds View City Hall <br /> Council Chambers <br /> 6 : 30 p.m. <br /> CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6 : 45 p.m. <br /> by Chairperson Wayne Burmeister . <br /> ROLL CALL Commissioners present : Commissioners Long , <br /> Wuori , Weflen , and Chairperson Burmeister . <br /> Commissioners absent : Commissioners Linnell , <br /> Letendre and Silvis. <br /> Councilmembers present: Councilmember Quick. <br /> Staff present : Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Anderson and Recreation/Athletic Supervisor <br /> Saarion. <br /> CHAIRPERSON ' S REPORT Chairperson Burmeister thanked Commissioner <br /> Wuori for the time and energy spent on the <br />. 4111 <br /> recent park referendum. <br /> COUNCILMEMBERS REPORT Councilmember Quick also expressed his thanks <br /> and appreciation on behalf of the City Coun- <br /> cil to Commissioner Wuori , forcoordinating <br />. the "People for Parks" Committee. <br /> PARK REFERENDUM <br /> DISCUSSION Staff distributed a newspaper article from <br /> the New Brighton Bulletin which outlined the <br />• <br /> department' s position regarding the recent <br /> referendum. Staff indicated that for some <br /> reason, we were unable to get enough yes <br />• voters out due to either voter apathy or <br /> possibly poor weather conditions. The Com- <br />• mission generally concurred with staff ' s <br /> feelings and expressed their surprise at the <br /> final tabulations. <br /> A discussion ensued regarding various funding <br /> options that could be explored to raise <br /> monies for future park development including <br /> additional joint powers agreements for staff- <br /> ing , pull tabs and expansion of the neighbor- <br /> hood park foundation concept. It was recom- <br /> mended by Chairperson Burmeister that a joint <br /> meeting be established with the City Council <br /> to determine the Council ' s reaction as well <br /> as set some future plans . <br />
