f
1!!!!!7;]
STATE OF
UnJ[EZ Q
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Metro Region Fisheries, 1200 Warner Road, St. Paul, MN 55106
PHONE NO. 612-296-2959 FILE NO.
February 10, 1986
Ramsey County Public Works
Jim Tolaas
3377 N. Rice St.
St. Paul, MN 55126
Dear Jim:
This is in response to our phone conversation of February 10, 1986 in which
you asked for Fisheries recommendations for potential aeration of Spring
(Wood) Lake (Spring Lake Park, and Moundsview) this winter to protect the fish
population from winterkill. The 1984 fish population assessment for Spring
Lake shows a population dominated by black bullheads, green sunfish, and
hybrid sunfish, typical for a frequent winterkill lake. The few gamefish
species sampled were of very small size or very low abundance. Expenditures
to prevent winterkill on Spring Lake are not presently justified.
Our management recommendations for Spring Lake are as described in a letter to
Bruce Anderson, Director of Parks and Recreation in Moundsview (see attached
copy of letter) . A comprehensive fish management program can provide signifi-
cant angling opportunities on Spring Lake. The Department of Natural Re-
sources wishes to work closely with all interested groups in the implementa-
tion of this proposal. With the support of the area's citizens, we can make
the proposal for fish management at Spring Lake a reality to the benefit of 1
all concerned.
Sincerely,
Bruce Gilbertson
Area Fisheries Supervisor
Region VI
cc: Duane Shodeen, Regional Fisheries Supervisor, Region VI
Bruce Anderson, Director of Parks & Recreation, Moundsview
City of Moundsview
•
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
