PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS <br /> Page two <br /> • <br /> GROUND-LEVEL PLAY AREAS <br /> Partially enclose a minimum of two areas underneath platforms and equipment <br /> to provide play space for children who are unable to climb. <br /> Install plastic bubbles, tires, steering wheels, etc. , in these areas to <br /> provide play opportunities at ground level. <br /> SLIDES <br /> Open slides which are at least six feet from the ground must have a slide <br /> tunnel attachment which forces the user to sit down to begin the slide. <br /> Double slides should be made available when possible (at least one per <br /> apparatus). Route to utilize double slide should be accessible (per <br /> ramp/platforms section listed above). <br /> SWINGS <br /> Swings should accomodate a variety of ages and ability levels. <br /> At least two swings located on or near the playstructure must be • <br /> accessible; i.e. therapeutic seat, tire swing, front-opening exer-glide. <br /> A desired combination would consist of belt swings, infant seats and tire <br /> swings. <br /> SURFACE <br /> A wheelchair accessible surface, which meets safety requirements, should be <br /> used instead of sand or peagravel. <br /> • <br />
