MEMO TO: SPRING LAKE PARK AND MOUNDS VIEW <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONERS <br /> FROM: KELLY LINDQUIST, AQUATICS SUPERVISOR <br /> DATE: APRIL 13 , 1988 <br /> RE: LAKESIDE BEACH IMPROVEMENTS FOR 1988 <br /> There has been a considerable amount of damage done to Lakeside <br /> Park beachhouse during the fall of 1987 and through the winter and <br /> spring months of 1988 . As a result of repeated vandalism, Lakeside <br /> Park Beachhouse has suffered smoke damage and loss of safety <br /> equipment . Much has to be done before the June 11 beach opening . <br /> Working with Jay McCluskey and Mary Saarion, I have put together a <br /> list of duties that must be performed before the beach is <br /> officially opened for the 1988 swimming season . Priority will be <br /> given to items that are of greater importance to the safe continued <br /> operation of the beach . <br /> 1 . REPAIR DAMAGE FROM FIRE <br /> I think the first priority is to repair the beachhouse by <br /> cleaning the soot from ceilings , walls and floor and then <br /> painting using the appropriate paint . I also feel the building <br /> should be re-keyed as soon as possible to prevent further <br /> damage . Only the beach manager and her assistant will have a <br /> key to the building along with the maintenance crew. A new <br /> telephone is needed for the beachhouse. The old phone was <br /> burned in the fire with all the megaphones and some first-aid <br /> equipment . <br /> 2 . EQUIPMENT <br /> Replacing equipment that was damaged will be a major expense <br /> this year. Aside from a new telephone and four megaphones , I <br /> would like to purchase a new spineboard with a head immobilizer <br /> and chin and body straps . This piece of equipment was included <br /> in a suggested short range and long range improvements for <br /> Lakeside Beach that was put together in 1986 . Taking into <br /> account the present condition of Lakeside Beachhouse, I had to <br /> deviate from some of the proposed improvement plans . This year <br /> I would like to purchase lifeguard uniforms that the lifeguard <br /> would buy for a reduced price . Jackets will be provided by the <br /> City and turned in at the end of the summer. <br />
