-2-
3 . OUTSIDE PICNIC AND SWIMMING BEACH AREA
Due to the low water level of Spring Lake , we have lost much of
our sandy swimming area. I would like to raise the lake several
inches to correct this . Sand has to be moved from the lower
beach closer to the wall and sidewalk. Signs have been
purchased stating our hours of operation and will be placed by
the two sidewalks leading to the swimming area and out by the
softball field entrance . Beach closed signs will be placed by
beach fo days of severe weather/lightening . These signs will
inform the public when lifeguards are on or off duty . Trash can
lids will help maintenance people by keeping rain water out of
already hard to lift trash cans and will help control the bee
population . There will be three swings replaced this year ( two
adult and one tot ) along with chain and S-hooks , two new picnic
tables , and two grills have been added to the east picnic area .
Hopefully, more can be purchased over the next few years . A new
drinking fountain is needed, the only question is whether it will
last the summer. Old useless water pipes will be removed limiting
the possibility of injury. Improvements should be made to the
tennis court fence and the addition of two horseshoe pits is being
410
considered . Another consideration is what to do with the tennis
court . Whether to patch the existing cracks or a complete
resurfacing job, or turn it into a sandlot volleyball court? I
request discussion from the two cities regarding this issue .
I am looking forward to meeting with you April 21 at Lakeside Beach
and discussing 1988 beach improvements . Even though our hands are
full in preparing Lakeside Beach for the swimming season, I 'm
anticipating a great summer with a safe and healthy environment in
which to swim.
KL/SL
S
