-2-
At this time,, the majority of the residents are maintaining •
the pond area by themselves down to 10 - 15 feet off the pond
area. In addition to determining the type of maintenance and
frequency, we need to discuss the peripheral issues which
include fertilization and weed control .
3 . We also need to discuss the encroachment of facilities and/or
storage of properties on the park area. Problems that have
currently developed include; Dog houses, gardens, tree
plantings, and bird houses. The problem is currently com-
• pounded in that there are sections of trail on the north side
of the pond whereby the City has encroached on Mary Anderson
property to develop the trail area .
4 . We need to develop a planting policy from two perspectives:
a. What types of shubbery, hedges, and/or planting does the
City envision in the area?
b. Will the residents have any input in the planting pro-
cess?
5. .Should we define the park property boundary corners? At this
time, the engineering department has staked the rear property
lines, and it has been suggested that some type of concrete
monument, approximately 2 - 3 inches out of the ground be
placed at each of the corners so that a permanent visible •
boundary marker would he established.
6 . Establish a philosophical base from which the residents and
City could work from. Specific issues would include uses of
the park , :liability, future development, aesthetics and pr.o-
gramming issues such as fishing , canoeing , boating , water
fowl habitat development and other related issues, so that
there is a clear understanding as to what the City' s intent
for future development will be .
Staff will be forwarding an abbreviated copy ' of the aforemen-
tioned study questions to each of the residents in the Mary
Anderson home development on Monday, May 19 , 1986 . Should you
have additional questions or desire a c-hange in the meeting
plans, feel free to contact myself directly at 784-3055 , ext .
#20 .
DKA/s11
%
