-2-
The Silver View pathway is still a controversial item. A citizen's •
informational meeting held at Mr. and Mrs. Golden's house was yet another
opportunity to resolve the special interests of residents. As suggested by
Councilmembers Hankner and Quick, the project of working with the residents
to choose plantings for the park land boundary should be reinstated. Plants
can then be ordered this fall to be followed by planting this spring.
Forester Rick Wriskey has been given the directive for this project.
The issue of continuing the pathway around the pond is unresolved and staff
will await direction as to the Council's desires in this matter.
I am pursuing information from various companies regarding bridge costs and
pond treatments. When this information is collected, I will submit a report.
PARK MAINTENANCE
Please find attached a calendar of park projects through December, 1987. I
cannot say enough great words to describe the work done by Tim Pittman and
Steve Daszinski .. . if only the parks had two more such park crew members, all
the projects plus the small, but important jobs could get accomplished. Time
always seems to be too short to accomplish necessary park chores and this
results in prioritizing projects which all could be #1
RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Fall statistics are attached. As usual, the swimming program decreases due to •
colder weather and busy schedules. However, instructional classes are
popular. A real concern is the sharp decrease of Gadabouts participants.
Several of the past monthly trips have been cancelled due to lack of interest.
These are combined trips with Shoreview which means we only need half the
numbers. Even so, several trips have cancelled. The bus companies have
attested to the same experiences. One reason may be that people have toured
places and need a reprieve before interest ignites again. Another reason may
be that people are more independent and are pursuing these interests on their
own. Group rates and bus transportation may not be as important at this time.
This trend will continue to be monitored.
FORESTRY
Forester Rick Wriskey is ordering stock for spring, 1988. Now is the time for
special requests!
. •
