MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTORt
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY rb
DATE: OCTOBER 8, 1987 ei .F,
• ' r
f Oril
RE: PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATE ! 4 ? f
GROVELAND PARK ' k
I met with Crowley Fence and the safety fence for the bang board will be
installed within a few weeks. It will be placed alongside the asphalt and
will be 10 feet high.
The County electrical inspector did not approve the plastic covering on the
wire leading from the ground to the meter box on the tennis court lights.
Pierson/Wilcox was called to correct it and upon approval the inspector will
call NSP to connect it to the power. At that time, lights should activate
on a timer set between 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Persons may push an "ON" button and
the lights will activate. The lights will activate only when the button is
pushed.
GREENFIELD PARK
Mike Brandl is doing his Eagle Scout project at Greenfield Park. He is
supervising the construction of eight horseshoe pits, four beyond the
baseball diamond and four at the tail end of the Greenfield pathway across
from Oakwood Park. The pits are official measurements with timber borders and
sand base. The stakes will not be inserted until the spring of 1988.
RANDOM PARK
Steve Daszinski and Tim Pittman are doing an excellent job constructing the
railings for Random Park classroom building. NSP has finally connected power
to the building and this week Gopher Electric will finish installing the
security lights. Steve and Tim will be working on the parking lot and
landscaping and if the weather holds, will be painting the building brown with
tan trim. Plantings will hold off until springtime. A calendar of activities
already scheduled for the building is enclosed as well as a permit use form
including regulations.
The Mounds View Lions Club has generously allotted money to purchase mini-
blinds (window treatments) and will be supplying stacking chairs, tables and
cupboards for the building. A new vacuum cleaner and bulletin board was
purchased and vinyl/cloth door mats have been ordered.
SILVER VIEW PARK
There has been some buzzing that the Mounds View Lions Club may be interested
in purchasing a picnic shelter for Silver View Park. Although I have not
heard officially, I will be sending the Lions Club park shelter information.
••
•
