• MOUNDS VIEW Exhibit A
Parks& Recreation Commission
March 29, 2000, 6:30 pm
Minutes
Commissioners present: Sherry Gunn, Frank Silvis, Rich Sonterre, Stan McDonald,
Mike Szczepanski, Tony Zuk, Dawn Little, Theresa Lexcen, and Dave Long.
Staff present: Terri Blattenbauer(YMCA) and Mike Ulrich(Public Works)
A motion was made to approve the minutes from February 23, by Rich, seconded by
Stan.
John Hammerschmidt, the Bridges Golf Course Manager was present to inform the
Commission of the Big Woods Planning Study. John discussed and showed maps of the
course with normal rainfall and record rainfalls. He shared with the commission that it is
up to Mounds View to decide what is done with land that is delineated wet lands. He
asked for input on the direction of this project. Also, the status of Ardan Park was
discussed, and movement of the compost site. The site can only be changed if the City
adds and changes the driving range. There is also potential for the north side of Highway
•
10. John indicated either 9 more holes, or an 18 hole chip 'n putt. There was side
discussion on general questions the Commission had such as the billboards and the debt
incurred, usage fees, and year round training. The Commission was asked to complete a
questionnaire regarding the study.
Mounds View Resident, Cliff Ash was present at the meeting. Cliff expressed
appreciation for the paved trail around Silverview pond and for quick staff responses to
his phone calls. He also wanted to communicate some concerns to the Commission:
• The old portion of Silverview path is cracking
• Tires in the pond by Scotland Green
• New seeding is needed next to new path
• Water lillie issue on pond(Parks Dept. has info. From Cliff on how to treat)
• West side of the pond needs trimming
Stan concurred with Cliff as to the cooperation by this volunteer group of individuals.
Stan also mentioned the idea of having a liaison with the Commission, Public Works and
the Silver Lake Woods Association. His point was to continue to utilize these individuals
who are willing to help. Rich mentioned that a clean up day City-wide in conjunction
with the Association may be a solution.
A letter written by a resident and given to Commissioners was discussed, relative to the
safety of the new path surrounding Silverview pond. The resident suggested making it a
• walking path only. The group decided this was too restrictive for people, that signage
and paint could identify proper direction and etiquette.
