• Stan made a motion to direct Mike Ulrich,Public Works Director,to make a
recommendation to the Commission in April based on discussion and feasibility,
towards a solution to the issue. Seconded by Dave. Motion carries.
Mike Ulrich, Director of Public Works will be attending Commission meetings monthly.
There is much confusion and frustration for the Commission without access to City
information. Mike's attendance will hopefully alleviate this problem. Stan questioned
redefining what it is that this group does. Since the YMCA came in, structure has
changed, as well as,the flow of information. The group agreed on the importance of the
budget and the need to find a vehicle to increase the park dedication fund.
Staff informed the Commission of the upcoming summer programs, and what the new
enhancements are for 2000. Summer playgrounds are extending to an 8 week program,
adding 1 hour in the afternoon, value added components, increase in fees, collaborative
with New Brighton to provide a program on the south side, and additional field trips. A
manufactured home park is a new addition for the summer. A program will be developed
at the Arden Manor park for afternoons. The Pinewood collaborative is changing to add
more features than just the physical piece to their summer school program. Other
programs being offered are: VB & BB camp, youth soccer clinic, baseball, softball,
dance, preschool, swimming lessons, family nights in the park, babysitting certification,
leagues, adult dance, and Sr. programs, teen nights, trips, Lakeside Beach, and birthday
parties. A summary of the Playground focus group was reviewed. The focus group
• essentially confirmed what was perceived. An update on program numbers indicate
strong registration for spring sign up.
The Park improvement wish list was briefly discussed. The list will again be addressed at
the next meeting.
In other business, Rich shared a memo regarding traffic controls along County 10. He
has asked the Commission to support his request to the City council to change and
improve traffic control measures. After much discussion, a motion was made.
Stan made a motion to table this item until the next meeting, and also, for Mike
Ulrich to fax the letter to Ramsey County for review. Seconded by Mike S. Motion
carries.
Meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
Next meeting: Wednesday,April 26, 2000, 6:30 pm at City Hall
•
