RSCC REPORT: Director Saarion reported that the Senior Citizens
• Task Force is still going strong. However, they
were disappointed and angry to hear at the meeting
last evening that Senator Frank had dropped the
ball regarding his support to the bill. The bill
was not introduced to the committee in which he was
supposed to introduced it. He did not even submit
it for scheduling. After he had indicated to the
Task Force that he would sponsor the bill, the Task
Force was very disappointed and felt very betrayed
by Senator Frank. However, they are still very
interested in the project and have indicated a
willingness to continue on their quest even if it
means waiting until next year's legislative
session.
ADA REPORT: Director Saarion reported that she had attended a
workshop regarding the application of ADA
regulations in park improvements and program
facilitation. It was reported that all new
facilities provided in the parks must be accessible
to those with disabilities. Whenever possible
facilities should be retrofitted for accessibility.
Provisions for inclusion of persons with
disabilities should be provided in recreational
programming.
• OTHER
BUSINESS: Discussion regarding the expectations of summer
programming for the first time without local
subsidization resulted in the Commission's desire
to put as a special topic on the agenda for next
meeting the strategy of how to impress upon the
council the desire of the Commission to put a high
priority on youth programming and activities with
subsidy if necessary for the benefit of the
community at large. This will be discussed more
during the April meeting, to be presented to the
Council during the Work Session on May 4, 1992 .
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Silvis made a motion, seconded by
Commissioner Starr to adjourn the meeting. Meeting
adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Next meeting is Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
•
