Mr. Mack distributed copies of a tabulation of Parks and Recreation Commission mem- <br /> bers' responses to the survey. Mr. Botzek suggested that the survey be presented to Ram- • <br /> sey County Fair participants. <br /> Review of Island Lake County Park Development Concept Plan <br /> Mr. Mack presented maps of the past and future configuration of the park. He reported <br /> that the parking lots have been paved and the toilet buildings are being installed on the <br /> east side of the lake. Three picnic shelters will be constructed; two with capacity for 100 <br /> people each and one with capacity for 50 people. <br /> There was discussion about use of the 30 acres on the west side of the lake, south of the <br /> residential area. It was agreed that this area should remain in a relatively natural state <br /> with trails for public access. <br /> Mr. Mack said the City of Shoreview will be reviewing the park development concept, in- <br /> cluding plans for the golf facility, on Monday,June 15. Golf facility plans include a driv- <br /> ing range,9-hole golf course, clubhouse and parking area. The driving range will be <br /> open for operation in 1993. Completion of the entire facility is expected by the fall of <br /> 1994. Mr. Edmonds moved, seconded by Mr. Frank, that the development concept for <br /> Island Lake County Park and the golf facility be recommended for approval. Motion <br /> carried. <br /> Consideration of a Recommendation from the Friends of the Parks and Trails for Es- • <br /> tablishment of a County Tree Board or Committee <br /> After some discussion about the fact that Ramsey County does not have county-wide <br /> planning or zoning authority,Chairman Nethercut suggested that a letter be sent to the <br /> Friends recommending that municipalities form individual tree boards. Mr. Nolan will <br /> draft a letter. <br /> Commission Member Updates Regarding Work Plan Assignments <br /> Commission members submitted their comments on the draft annual "State of the Parks <br /> Report" to Chairman Nethercut. Mr. Mack said documentation will need to be submitted <br /> by June 22 for presentation to the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Committee on July <br /> 7. Mr. Botzek moved, seconded by Mr. Nolan, that the second annual report be ap- <br /> proved and forwarded to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners. Motion <br /> carried. (Note: The report will be presented to the Public Works/Parks and Recreation <br /> Committee on July 21, 1992,9:00 a.m.) <br /> Mr. Nolan reported that he spoke with people in New Orleans, Atlanta and Miami <br /> regarding private funding of public parks. He gave an overview of information he <br /> gathered and circulated printed materials. Mr. Nolan feels that adoption of parks by • <br /> corporate neighbors may be the best approach for Ramsey County. It was agreed that <br />
