MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONERS
• FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
PARK, RECREATION & FORESTRY
DATE: SEPTEMBER 16, 1992
SUBJECT: UPDATE ON ARSENAL LAND FOR ATHLETIC FIELDS
I recently talked with John Buckley regarding an update on the
status of using Arsenal land for the development of a joint city
athletic complex. Things have been moving for Arden Hills. John
informed me that the Army is in the process of working a deal
with the City of Arden Hills where they will give Arden Hills
approximately 500 - 600 acres of property just north of the new
Reserve Building. The land would be used for a new Arden Hills
City Hall and Maintenance Building. The remaining acreage would
be park land for the development of an athletic complex. This
land would have access either off of Lexington or Hwy 96. There
are currently no restrictions for pollutants and other issues. A
long term lease would be enacted.
The original joint athletic complex plan had a $50, 000. 00
contribution from each city. This complex would include
baseball, soccer and softball fields.
It is time to look into funding for the $50, 000. 00 contribution
• if the City of Mounds View wishes to continue to be a member of
this joint venture.
•
