Moillvns ViEw <br />JOB DESCRIPTION <br />Job Title: <br />Police Sergeant <br />Grade: <br />None Assigned. <br />Supervisor Title: <br />Deputy Chief <br />Department: <br />Police <br />FLSA Status: <br />Non-exempt LELS 232 <br />Date Reviewed: 02/20/2024 <br />Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience: <br />➢ Two (2) year community college degree or vocational school training in police sciences, police science, law <br />enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or related field. <br />➢ Completion of the basic law enforcement training academy or equivalent. <br />➢ Five (5) years of experience as a fully commissioned police officer. <br />Nature of Work: <br />This position is responsible for directing and supervising patrol activities as assigned in a manner which will <br />ensure an effective and coordinated program of law enforcement and public safety for the community. <br />Communicates with: <br />Internally —Department supervisors, department directors, public safety staff. <br />Externally — General public, Law Enforcement Labor Service, County staff. <br />Supervision: <br />Exercises supervision of patrol officers. <br />Essential Work Functions: <br />• Works closely with the Police Chief and Deputy Police Chief to establish work schedules and assignment so that each <br />officer has a clear understanding of duties assigned and level of performance expected. <br />• Recognize opportunities to provide Patrol officers assigned with suggestions which will facilitate an effective program <br />of law enforcement and public service. <br />• Performs street patrol on a regular basis and/or assists other squads in responding to critical emergency situations <br />are required. <br />• Evaluates overall results being achieved in the Department and recommends changes in procedures or policies for <br />approval and implementation by the Chief which will improve results being achieved. <br />• Checks reports prepared by officers assigned to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity in reporting, follows <br />through to obtain additional or correct information as circumstances dictate. <br />• Ensures an effective program or preventative maintenance on all squad cars and related police equipment to always <br />ensure proper working condition. <br />• Review established department policies and regulations with all assigned personnel to ensure a complete <br />understanding and compliance with such regulations. <br />• Conducts daily briefing with officers to discuss patrol assignments, traffic enforcement assignments, and training <br />topics as necessary. <br />• Confers with the Chief on a regular basis to determine changes in work assignments or activities which must be <br />passed along to the night shift. <br />• Conducts interrogation of suspects and witnesses. <br />• Ensures all reports written by assigned personnel are prepared according to established department regulations and <br />follows through to correct discrepancies which may occur in the reporting process. <br />
