Park and Recreation Commission Minutes <br />January 26, 1989 <br />Page two <br />RESIDENTS COMMENTS (CONTD) After a lengthy discussion, the <br />Commission asked staff to write a <br />letter to residents surrounding <br />Oakwood Park inviting them to the <br />March 16 meeting. At that time, <br />residents will have the opportunity to <br />express their concerns and desires for <br />the development of Oakwood Park. <br />CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT Chairperson Burmeister reported on the <br />January 25 meeting with the Spring <br />Lake Park Lions regarding the Lakeside <br />Park Beachhouse. He stated that the <br />engineer was finishing up minor details <br />and that the plans would be going out <br />for bids soon. He further stated that <br />the anticipated completion date is May <br />30, 1989. <br />COUNCILMEMBER'S REPORT NONE <br />ARSENAL PLAYFIELD CONCEPT Director Saarion presented the plans <br />for a joint playfield development <br />between the cities of Shoreview, New <br />Brighton, Arden Hills and Mounds View. <br />This playfield complex would be <br />located on Government Arsenal property <br />just east of 35W and north of County <br />Road H. The proposed playfield would <br />contain four adult softball fields, <br />one large baseball field and two <br />regulation size soccer fields in <br />addition to a parking lot. Upon <br />discussion, Director Saarion asked the <br />Commission their opinion as to whether <br />or not the City should continue in <br />this joint venture. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner <br />Silvis, seconded by Commissioner <br />Stevenson to proceed with the proposal <br />for leasing the land in a joint <br />venture with Arden Hills, Shoreview, <br />and New Brighton for the establishment <br />of the playfield on Government <br />Arsenal surplus property.. Motion <br />carried: 5 ayes, 0 nayes. <br />SILVER VIEW MANAGEMENT <br />PLAN OUTLINE Director Saarion asked the Commission <br />to review the management plan and <br />request additional information if so <br />desired. The plan is very <br />comprehensive but may overlook special <br />interests. If any additions are <br />requested please notify Director <br />Saarion. <br />
