RESOLUTION 9935 <br />and <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />URGING THE STATE OF MINNESOTA AND UNITED STATES TO DECLARE <br />ELECTION DAY IN THE UNITED STATES AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY <br />WHEREAS, the United States is the largest democracy in the history of the world, <br />WHEREAS, only 5 states in the United States have declared Election Day as a <br />Paid Holiday with 9 others declaring it as a public holiday but do not required paid <br />time off, and <br />WHEREAS, the United States ranks 31st out of 50 democracies in voter turnout <br />with Uruguay (94.9% and Turkey leading the world (89%; and <br />WHEREAS, in the 2022 Presidential Election, voter turnout was 62.8%, and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mounds <br />View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows: <br />1. Request and advocate the Minnesota State Legislature and Governor pass <br />legislation that the State of Minnesota should join with Illinois, West Virginia, <br />Maryland, New York and Hawaii as States designating Election Day as a paid <br />State Holiday. <br />2.
