Also slides were presented to demonstrate diseased
tree problems and to show the difference that tree
canopies can have the community. Forester Wriskey
answered many questions of the Commission including
questions pertaining to Gypsy Moth, the new Green
Ash disease and the results of the drought from a
few years ago.
CDBG GRANT: Director Saarion reported that the City was awarded
the Lambert Park playground equipment grant for
$50, 000. 00. Director Saarion reviewed the
proposals of three playground distributors used for
the grant application. Director Saarion
recommended the proposal from Earl F. Anderson
because it best fit the regulation of ADA and the
criteria for the grant regarding prevailing wages
for laborers. Also, this particular playground
equipment has not been installed in any of the
other parks and thus provides different components.
Finally, the proposal provides for access for those
with disabilities throughout the entire playground
area rather than just a small area as did the other
proposals.
The Commission reviewed the three distributors
proposals. After discussion, Commissioner Silvis
made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Starr to
recommend the purchase of the Earl F. Anderson
playground equipment proposal for Lambert Park .
using the funds awarded from the CDBG Grant.
Motion passed. 6 Ayes, 0 Nayes
LAKESIDE PARK: Staff informed the Commission that their
recommendation was approved by the City Council
with the encouragement of Commissioners Dentz and
Starr. The beach therefore will be staffed with
lifeguards for the complete six weeks of operation
Mondays through Sundays.
TRAILWAYS
ADVOCACY
GROUP: It was reported that the Trailways Advocacy Group
was moving ahead on their task of proposing a
trailways route system for networking and linking
other trailways. The draft map of routes was
reviewed. It was also reported that they were
working on goals and objectives and also a
resolution for Council to advocate the
consideration of trailways during all street repair
and improvements. The group will meet again on
Thursday, April 2 at 7 : 00 p.m. They will be
finalizing a recommendation to go to the Parks and
Recreation Commission at the April meeting and
finally to the City Council on May 4, 1992 .
