Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes <br /> May 28, 1992 <br /> Page two <br /> EAGLE SCOUT <br /> PROJECTS: Director Saarion informed the Commission of two scouts interested <br /> • <br /> in working on Eagle projects in the parks. Peter Szurek will be <br /> painting Woodcrest Park building and Brian Rife will be landscaping <br /> Silver View Park horseshoe courts. Another scout, Troy Griebe is <br /> interested in landscaping Lambert Park play equipment area once <br /> the playground has been constructed. <br /> PARKS <br /> PROJECTS: Director Saarion informed the Commission that the parking lot at <br /> Lambert Park has been installed. The additional playground <br /> equipment at Silver View Park has been installed. Soccer goals have <br /> been ordered and received as well as a drinking fountain for Silver <br /> View Park picnic shelter. New bleachers for City Hall has been <br /> ordered. The culvert work for Silver View Park is being reviewed by <br /> SEH and will be rebid. <br /> RECREATION <br /> PROGRAM <br /> UPDATE: Director Saarion reviewed the Summer program registration and <br /> noted that the fee increase has severely curtailed registrations <br /> especially in the Butterflies Are Free program. Registrations are <br /> low for summer activities in direct relationship to the fee increases. <br /> The summer youth athletic programs however have increased across <br /> • <br /> the board due in probability to the bulge of youth in 1st and 2nd <br /> grades and the Twins World Series last year. <br /> OTHER <br /> BUSINESS: Commissioners Stevenson and Long voiced their concerns regarding <br /> the odor of the herbicide treatments at the neighborhood parks. <br /> The strong odor was a concern as to the amount of herbicide that <br /> was sprayed and the timing of the application. Staff was requested <br /> to convey the Commissioner's concerns to the Director of Public <br /> Works. Staff said that she would do so. <br /> ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Silvis to adjourn the meeting.
