Parks and Recreation Commission June 26, 1992 Page two Director Saarion informed the Commission that monies may be available for spending recommendation due to money saved due to • the grant received for Lambert Play equipment. The money could be used for putting in a paved section of pathway at City Hall Park. Commissioner Stevenson suggested that a section of paved pathway at Silver View Park should also be considered. Staff will provide the Commission with cost estimates for both projects at the next meeting. Commissioner Silvis made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stevenson to direct staff to look into the costs of paths at City Hall and Silver View Parks. Motion passed, 4 ayes, 0 nays. PROGRAM UPDATE: The summer programs are underway, with youth clinics and camps offered through-out the summer in many different sporting interests. The Butterflies Are Free program has a severely decreased number of participants due to the lack of subsidy and resulting high fees. The summer playground program is as popular as always with good registrations and low fees due to the grant provided for staffing needs by the Mounds View Lion's Club. Youth athletic programs have increased in registration probably due to a high number of 6-7- 8 years olds and the results of the Twins winning the World Series. LAKESIDE • PARK: The beach opened on Saturday, June 20, 1992. The weather has been unusually cool and therefore the numbers of swimmers has not be high. However, the park has extremely high usage especially during the evenings for softball, volleyball, use of the walking path, playground area, general sunbathing and picnicking. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Stevenson made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Commissioner Silvis. Motion passed 4 ayes, 0 nays. Meeting adjourned.
