t
playground program which has the philosophy of
open playgrounds, freedom of choice, flexibility
and decision-making would be offered. This would
allow the participants to choose which program to
participate. Commissioners were reluctant to
change the traditional program which has been so
popular throughout the ages, yet were aware of
Council member Trude concern regarding the
security of people at the parks. This seemed a
good compromise, leaving the decision to those
registering. Motion was made by Councilmember
Long to advise staff to offer both programs.
Motion was seconded by Chair Burmeister. Motion
passed, 4 ayes, 0 nays. (Commissioner Starr left
the meeting early).
MVCT FUND-
RAISER: Director Saarion noted that the MVCT was
sponsoring a big event as a fund raiser for this
years production of "Oliver". There are two buses
full of people signed up for the day at the
Casino. Should be a good profit for the MVCT.
IMPACT INFO: Director Saarion shared information regarding
department activities which impact the community.
YOUTH SPORT
PHILOSOPHY: Director Saarion reviewed the philosophy of the
department regarding youth sports and the keen
interest and goal. Information distributed to
coaches was given out for review as well as basic
ideals such as enjoyment and good self esteem,
skill development, new interests and friends, good
values and fair play. More info later.
UPDATE ON
OTHER REC
ACTIVITIES: Director Saarion reviewed the activities of the
Garden Club, MVCT, Festival Committee, RSC, Focus
2000 teams and others.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion was made by Commission Dentz to adjourn the
meeting, seconded by Chair Burmeister. Motion
passed, 4 ayes, 0 nayes.
