• MOUNDS VIEW PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MEETTNG MINUTES <br /> Thursday, September 26, 1996 <br /> Random Park Building <br /> Before the meeting, a short dedication and grand opening was held for the new playground <br /> equipment at Random Park. Three families with children attended the grand opening .� even in the <br /> terrible weather. Animal crackers, cookies, apple juice and coffee were served. <br /> CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Burmeister was on vacation, therefore Commissioner <br /> Silvis called the meeting to order. <br /> ROLL CALL: Commissioners present: Silvis, Dentz, Starr, Gunn, Long, and <br /> Stevenson. Council Liaison Trude and Director Saarion were also <br /> present. <br /> APPROVAL OF <br /> • MINUTES: Commissioner Gunn made a motion seconded by Commissioner <br /> • Long to approve the minutes of July 25. Motion passed <br /> unanimously. Note: No minutes were written for the August <br /> meeting which was a social picnic for Commissioners and their <br /> families. <br /> FALL PROGRAMS: Director Saarion reviewed Fall program opportunities reporting <br /> that After School Programs were filled and when possible, <br /> additional sessions were added. There seems to be a real need for <br /> after school activities. Also, Saarion reviewed activities being <br /> offered at the Bel Rae. The swimming program was reported to be <br /> decreased because of lack of available Water Safety Instructors. <br /> There is a reportedly lack of certified instructors throughout the <br /> metropolitan area. The search is on for recruitment of WSI's. <br /> Commissioner Stevenson requested that staff advertise the calendar <br /> of events at the Bel Rae in the next City Newsletter. <br /> Commissioners also were interested in receiving a copy of the <br /> recent telephone survey for the Bel Rae. Staff will send copies <br /> ASAP. <br /> Volunteers to help work the Halloween Bash are needed. <br /> 111 <br /> Commissioner Long volunteered to work that evening. <br />
