Commissioner Dentz requested that the soccer field at Oakwood be • <br /> made wider by 10 - 15 feet. Staff agreed to have that done. <br /> BEL RAE: Council member Trude asked the Commissioners to share with her <br /> their thoughts and ideas for the Bel Rae. Commissioners as a <br /> whole liked the idea of activity at the Bel Rae, the more the better. <br /> They also were interested in ensuring that the community benefit <br /> for services and activities at the Bel Rae - rather than having it be a <br /> business, they are concerned that it keeps the community center <br /> perspective. Commissioners voiced concern about VB Digs <br /> success and what liability that would put the city in if they were <br /> attached to the Community Center. Commissioners continued to <br /> voice their opinion that the community center should provide <br /> spaces for community group use and activities for residents. <br /> PARK IMPROVEMENTS: Director Saarion reported on the pedestrian bridge, informing the <br /> Commission that easements have been secured except for Pastor <br /> Enterprises - of which the Council has agreed to begin <br /> condemnation proceedings although it may not be needed if Pastor <br /> works with the Planning Department in securing various <br /> agreements and provisions. The outfield fences will be removed <br /> and replaced with taller fences at City Hall and Silver View parks. . <br /> • The playground is in at Random Park. A list of work for <br /> winterizing the parks is being implemented, hopefully to be <br /> completed before the weather turns towards the worse. <br /> Preparation for rinks will begin as soon as the ground freezes. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Gunn brought up the problem that Pinewood School <br /> is having regarding vandalism to the playground equipment. Gunn <br /> reported that approximately 8 people volunteered a hard days work <br /> to refinish the equipment with linseed oil. Just after the work was <br /> completed, it was vandalized with graffiti. Other Pinewood School <br /> outdoor facilities have also been vandalized. Commissioner Gunn <br /> was seeking ideas for decreasing the risk. <br /> ADJOURNMENT: Next meeting was changed to the first Thursday of November since <br /> Director Saarion will be attending a conference during the regular <br /> meeting date. Because of holidays, it was suggested that the first <br /> Thursday in November and December be scheduled for the next <br /> meetings. Commissioner Long made a motion seconded by Starr to <br /> change the dates to November 7 and December 5 and to adjourn <br /> the meeting. Motion passed unanimously. <br />
