Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes <br />June 28, 2007 <br /> <br />1. Call to Order: 6:39PM: Roll Call: Aukee, Palm, Kroeger, Kunz, Long, Peterson. <br /> Arel arrived at 8:15 p.m. <br /> Staff Present: Lee, Dazenski, Weldon, Prindle <br /> <br />2. Approval of minutes from the May 24, 2007 meeting. Motion to approve by Kroeger, 2nd by Long. Motion Passed 6-0 <br /> <br />3. Public Input - Citizens are encouraged to speak to the Park and Recreation and Forestry Commissioners on issues of concern. No Citizens present <br /> <br />4. YMCA Update: <br /> 120 children enrolled in Playground Program. <br /> Wi-Fi available at MVCC for all residents—no charge <br /> Senior Day had 200 seniors present <br /> Lots of interest in renting Random Park Building on weekends and with new groups interested in this facility <br /> Safety Camp August 15-16 for grades 3-4 in collaboration with Spring Lake Park and Fridley <br /> <br />5. Unfinished Business: <br />Park Improvement Plan – the Park Improvement Plan is the document utilized by the Commission to plan and budget for park improvements. This document has three main components/ categories: <br /> <br />Category A – These are simple maintenance items that City crews can perform during the calendar year <br />Category B – These are items to be budget for in the next year or two ($35,000 budgeted in 2007) <br />Category C – These are items with large capital expenditures anticipated over the next five or more years. These items will also be included in the City’s Capital Improvement Program. <br /> <br /> <br />The Park Improvement Plan has been updated based on direction given by the Commission during May 24th Park Tour and discussions at the May 24th Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. <br /> The Commission reviewed and finalized this draft. The Commission should then make a motion to approve the Park Improvement Plan and direct staff to present tit to the City Council on <br /> July 9th for approval of the plan and approval of items to be purchased in 2007. <br />Motion by Palm, 2nd by Peterson to approve Park Improvement Plan and present to City Council. Motion Passed 6-0 <br /> <br />6. New Business: <br />Groveland and Hillview Ball field review – review possible new locations for these fields and issues associated with their relocation. Overlays of field rotation indicate better possibilities <br /> at Hillview than Groveland, however at a cost of $15,500. If no flipping, just the regrading would cost about $1500. Direct staff to regrade Hillview and Groveland ball fields. <br />Consideration for irrigation around park buildings at $2000. Direct staff to put in irrigation around Hillview and Groveland buildings. <br />Comprehensive Plan Task Force – Selecting a Parks and Recreation Commission Representative. The City is required to update its Comprehensive Plan by 2008. To assist in updating the plan, <br /> the City Council will be establishing a task force. The City Council would like one member from each City Commission to represent that Commission on the Comprehensive Plan Task Force. <br /> Jerry Kunz will be this representative.
