If it involves just cutting them down with chainsaws and
hauling away, then no permit is required. If the removal involves getting machinery into
the wetland (bobcat, backhoe, etc.) to grub out stumps or haul the logs away, then we need
to review and approve it. An exception to this would be if it was done in mid winter when
the wetland was completely frozen and could support the machinery without breaking through
and compacting/rutting the soil.
Ken Powell
Prof. Wetland Scientist/Permit Coord.
Rice Creek Watershed District
4325 Pheasant Ridge Drive NE, Suite 611
Blaine, MN 55449
Phone: 763-398-3072
Fax: 763-398-3088
e-mail: kpowell@ricecreek.org
website: www.ricecreek.org <http://www.ricecreek.org/>
From: Nick Fleischhacker [mailto:nick.fleischhacker@ci.mounds-view.mn.us]
Sent: Monday, October 08, 2007 12:24 PM
To: Ken Powell
Subject: Wetlands City of Mounds View
Hi
I work for the City of Mounds view Public Works Department. Residents
in a park have requested the removal/thinning of small willow trees in a
park wetland area for aesthetic purposes. Is the removal of these trees
in a wetland area allowed by the watershed district.
Thanks
Nick Fleischhacker
City of Mounds View
763-717-4063
1
