Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes <br />February 28, 2008 <br />6:30 P.M. <br /> <br /> <br />1. Call to order 6:30 P.M. Roll Call: Peterson, Long, Arel, Kroeger, Kunz, Palm (7:40), Aukee <br /> Staff present: Lee, Weldon, Szurek, Pringle <br /> <br />2. Approval of minutes from the January 24, 2008 meeting. Motion by Kroeger, 2nd by Long to approve the minutes. Motion Passed 6-0. <br /> <br />3. Public Input - Citizens are encouraged to speak to the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commissioners on issues of concern. No residents present <br /> <br />4. YMCA Update <br />Weldon: <br /> Ice skating season wrapped up on Sunday, February 24th. This year was a great success in terms of weather and usage. The rinks were officially in operation for 71 days this season. <br /> This compares to about 50 days last year. The overall usage was: <br /> RINK No. of Participants Average No. of Participants per day <br />Lambert 765 approximately 10 <br />Hillview 573 approximately 8 <br />Groveland 206 approximately 3 <br />The rinks are still in a usable condition. Commissioner Aukee requested that they be dusted off so they could be used the next weekend. <br /> <br />Pringle: <br />Pat Pringle of the YMCA presented the 2008 Summer Park Programs. He handed out an informational flyer (attached). <br /> <br /> <br />Unfinished Business: <br /> <br />5. <br />Greenfield Park – The Parks and Recreation Commission conducted a Public Meeting on January 24, 2008 to discuss what should be the long term vision for the parkland and existing trailway <br /> located north of Oakwood Park and east / northeast of Greenfield Park. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed the Feedback Forms that were submitted by residents. The general consensus of the feedback received was to fix up the pathway so it can be used more for pedestrians <br /> and bicyclists - but not necessarily pave it. More general up keep is needed in this area of the park. <br /> <br />Commissioner Aukee introduced the concept of adding a new access from Sherwood Dive. There was general discussion pertaining to tree plantings, and adding lighting to this area – perhaps <br /> using solar lights. There was a lot of discussion pertaining to bridges; purposes and benefits for upgrading existing bridges, use of the two bridges the City retained from the golf <br /> course, when to install bridges, and how the installation of the bridges would relate to upgrading of the trailway from a construction standpoint.
