MOUNDS Vi�v <br />JOB DESCRIPTION <br />Job Title: <br />Apprentice <br />Grade: <br />4 <br />Supervisor Title: <br />Public Works Foreman <br />Department: <br />Public Works <br />FLSA Status: <br />Non -Union; Non -Exempt <br />Date Reviewed: 08/26/2024 <br />Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience: <br />➢ High School Diploma or GED. <br />➢ One summer as a seasonal employee within the Public Works Department. <br />➢ Preferred: One (1) year experience in general, skilled, or semi -skilled labor performing maintenance, repair, <br />construction, or other similar job -related tasks on municipal infrastructure or operating motorized equipment <br />for these activities. <br />➢ Preferred: Possession of a MN Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement <br />Nature of Work: <br />This is a two (2) year apprenticeship. At the conclusion of the training, the candidate is expected to understand the <br />essential work functions for all Public Works Subdivisions as listed below. Wastewater is the primary subdivision for <br />the Apprentice. The expectation is -For the Apprentice to spend most of the time in the Wastewater area. When time <br />allows, training will occur in other subdivisions. <br />The Apprentice will receive on the job training over the course of two -years, spending accumulatively two (2)- months <br />each of the following Public Works subdivisions: Drinking Water, Wastewater, Storm Water, Streets, and Parks. The <br />Apprentice will spend accumulatively one (1) month each in the Vehicle and Equipment and Facility subdivisions. The <br />Apprentice is responsible for learning and understanding a wide variety of skilled and general maintenance work <br />activities and functions including operating, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the municipal infrastructure and <br />equipment associated with the drinking water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution system; wastewater <br />collection system; stormwater conveyance, ponds, and treatment systems; streets, trails, and right-of-way; parks, <br />recreation facilities, and forestry; and buildings and grounds. <br />Once the candidate has reached the end of the two (2) year training period, achieved all required trainings and <br />certifications for the apprenticeship, if a position exists within the department the candidate will be promoted into or <br />allowed to apply for the vacant position. <br />Communicates with: <br />Internally — Public works staff. <br />Externally —Vendors and general public. <br />Supervision: <br />None <br />Essential Work Functions for all subdivisions will be taught to the Apprentice. Only after training or certification(s) <br />have been obtained will the Apprentice be allowed to participate or perform the following activities: <br />• Assists and participates in responding to emergencies affecting municipal infrastructure function including storm <br />debris clean up, water and sewer pipe breaks, traffic control, flooding, and other urgent matters. <br />• Operates a variety of common industry and specialized vehicles, heavy and light equipment, machinery, and tools. <br />Assist and participate in routine maintenance and repair of such vehicles, equipment, machinery, and tools. Cleans <br />
