AMAIN 1000
Awg
DEPARTMENT Natural Resources - Wildlife
TO Kent Lokkesmoe,
Regional Waters Supervisor
FROM Lloyd W. Knudson,
Area Wildlife Manager
SUBJECT: P.A. 8 0- 6 2 5 8 —L j
STATE 5SINNESOTA
Office M emorandum
DATE:
7/3/80
1,-464-5200
 )U
J U L 9 1980
EGION Vl
WATERS
I made a field inspection of the above permit application
on 7/1/80. The area in question is a type III and type VI wet-
land located in the Village of Moundsview. The above permit
application proposes to excavate this wetland area to develop
a storm water pond.
The wetland in its present condition provides some very
valuable wildlife habitat for a variety of wildlife species.
It is also somewhat unique in that it is the last size-
able wetland of this type left in the City of Moundsview.
The above proposal would destroy much of the vegetation, which
is present in this basin and would create an open water pond.
This would reduce both the abundance and diversity of the
plant and animal species which inhabit this wetland.
It would be my recommendation that this basin not be
altered and the above permit application be denied.
You should also be aware that some small amounts of fill
have been placed in this wetland area within the last couple
of months. This fill is just off the Scotland Green Apartment
Complex parking lot.
LWK:to
cc: Roger Johnson
