Crash data over the last five years from Mounds View PD. Since 2016, there have been no
pedestrian or driver fatalities on the Boulevard. There have been three serious injuries; two
drivers and one pedestrian.
Intersection
# of Crashes
# of Fatalities/Serious Injuries
Long Lake Road
31
Drivers seriously injured (2017 incident)
County Road 1
30
None
County H2
30
None
Woodale Drive
29
None
Groveland Road
26
Pedestrian seriously injured
Edgewood
22
None
County Road H
17
None
Spring Lake Road
11
None
Red Oak/Silver Lake
6
None
Specific to the trail, as part of the 2022 street project, the pedestrian/bike trail will be completed
on the south and north side as part of that project.
Policy Questions:
1. Beautification of the corridor probably fits best in this area. The real policy question is
what amount of fiscal resources is the council willing to allocate to this endeavor?
Possibilities to beautify, which includes improving functionality to entice more use —
benches, picnic tables, signage; for example.
a. New/more robust monument signs at entry points.
b. Benches along trail.
c. Picnic benches along trail.
d. Landscaping (very strategic) along trail.
e. Burying of power lines.
f. Fountain in retention pond(s)
Safety at intersections, based on the data, could presumably be improved by redesign
and reconstruction. Estimates exceed $1 million per intersection. Where is this on the
Council priority list?
Commented [DPI]: ADA is Ramsey County Responsibility,
must have plan in place by 2024 to upgrade all ADA PED RAMPS
Commented [IS2]: There's two pans to this: (1) pedestrian
safety (e.g. ADA compliant curb ramps); and (2) motorist (e.g.
improved sight triangles). Realignment is only practical at
Groveland. But, realignment is not necessarily the best option (R-
type Left -turn lanes may be better, and much less expensive).
