County Road 10 Corridor Improvement Program
Project Update
June 29, 2005
Page 3
Traihvay plan
The desire for continuous trailway connections along both sides of County Road 10 has been
confirmed in meetings with the PMT. The corridor has been organized into three existing and
eleven proposed trail sections for further feasibility analysis and cost estimating. Additional
potential lateral coruiections into the surrounding neighborhoods have also been identified.
Gateway sign
Alternative designs for a gateway sign have been developed for the hillside between McDonalds
and Kentucky Fried Chicken, and a preferred design has been selected for further development.
Two locations on the hill side were staked and reviewed by City staff, and a preferred location
was selected. The gateway sign is currently being developed further in a manner consistent with
the landscape and lighting plan development.
Funding
As the review of the corridor has progressed, implementation of the proposed projects will also
be addressed. We have determined some intersection improvements and future trail locations but
further refinement and prioritization will occur over the next couple of months. In conjunction
with developing a schedule and a plan for implementation, a review will be performed of various
funding sources, which will also affect the final prioritization of the projects.
The Met Council is currently soliciting projects to compete for and potentially receive federal
finnding. Although we have not set the final prioritization of projects, it is essential that the City
does not miss an opportunity to apply for funding when it becomes available. This solicitation
only occurs every 2 years and the funding will be provided in 2009 or 2010.
We are anticipating submitting finding request for the 2 highest accident intersections, CR 10 at
CR H and CR 10 at Long Lake Road. In order to apply for the finding certain criteria must be
met. Bonestroo is currently reviewing the locations and criteria with City staff to determine the
size and type of improvement that will likely receive federal funding. In addition to the
intersection projects, we are also reviewing the possibility of submitting funding for portions of
rh
the trail along the CR 10 corridor. Applications are due to Met Council by July 29.
