Mounds View City Council Page Ten
~egular Meeting October 11, 1993
REPORTS'
1. Report of Councilmembers:
Councilmember Blanchard - No report.
Councilmember Wuori - Reminded all that Thursday, October 14, 1993
is "Turn Off the Violence Day". Wuori stated that television has
had an impact on the lives of children with so much violence being
shown. Wuori encouraged parents to watch television with their
children and explain to them how they feel about violence.
Councilmember Quick suggested calling the 1-800 number of the
sponsors of the violent shows and letting them know how one feels
about them sponsoring a program with such a violent nature.
Councilmember Ouick - No report.
Councilmember Trude- No report.
•2. Report of Mayor:
Mayor Linke
a. Mayor Linke thanked all of the volunteers that showed up to
help clean up the golf course site. There was a total of 48
persons. Mayor Linke extended a personal thank you to the
City's public works staff. Linke also thanked the City of
Lino Lakes for the use of their equipment (front end loader
and bobcat) to help with this effort. Mayor Linke commented
that another nearby City had turned us down and he would be
pursuing that issue in the near future.
Bill Frits, 8072 Long Lake Road, commented that now that Long
Lake Road is .complete there has been a tremendous amount of
rollerbladers, skateboarders and persons walking their dogs,
using the middle of Long Lake Road rather than the newly
built sidewalk. The problem that arises is there are no
speed limit signs posted on the road and, therefore, cars
move very fast down the road and Mr. Frits stated that, in
his opinion, this is a tragedy waiting to happen. Mr. Frits
further stated that semis drive that road at 2:00 a.m.
.Mayor Linke responded to Mr. Frits' comment in that he
participated as a ride-along with the Police Department last
week and witnessed tickets being written for speeding on that
road.
