Mounds View City Council January 23, 2012 <br /> Regular Meeting Page 8 <br /> 1111 <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller stated Jerry Skelly would be dearly missed by all. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller announced the Council would be meeting in an Executive Session <br /> following the conclusion of the regular meeting for purposes of discussing Labor Negotiations. <br /> The Council will adjourn the meeting from within the Closed Session. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller indicated there was a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon function at the Arden <br /> Hills Readiness Center last Saturday. She indicated volunteers went to the new armory dining <br /> area and held a Christmas party for troops and their families. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller explained Ed Paster, owner and founder of the Mounds View Square <br /> Shopping Center, passed away last Friday. She indicated Mr. Paster was a great business <br /> member of this community and will be greatly missed. She extended her sympathies to his <br /> family and friends. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller stated on Wednesday, January 26th, the Council would be meeting with <br /> local legislators to become more familiar with the broad range of issues facing the legislature this <br /> session. This meeting would be held at the League of Minnesota Cities location. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller commented Mayor Flaherty spoke to the business community at the <br /> Mounds View Business Council last Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. The event was well attended and • <br /> the message well received. She reviewed the benefits of the Mounds View Business newsletter. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller indicated a number of elected officials attended the Grand Opening Gala <br /> at the Zero Gravity last Wednesday, January l8th. She stated the business has been doing quite <br /> well since opening in December. <br /> Acting Mayor Mueller noted she would be attending a League of Minnesota Cities Conference <br /> this Friday and Saturday. The event would cover roles of City leaders, connection to citizens, <br /> reaching community goals and leadership skills for the new normal. <br /> B. Reports of Staff. <br /> City Administrator Ericson reported last Friday, January 20th, the Irondale High School hosted a <br /> Town Hall meeting on education. The high school now offered an early college program that <br /> would allow students to receive a 2-year degree. He indicated the event was very well attended. <br /> The State was looking at doing things differently while maintaining a high level of education for <br /> students. Minnesota wanted to maintain a competitive edge going into the future and an <br /> educated workforce would keep attracting companies and jobs to the State. <br /> City Administrator Ericson stated the North Metro Mayor's Association met last week. The City <br /> was being asked by the Mayor's Association to adopt a Resolution supporting fiscal disparity. <br /> This would be discussed in further detail at the February work session meeting. • <br />
