<br /> <br />Council Member Gunn indicated National Night Out would be held on August 7th. She encouraged the residents to begin planning their events. <br /> <br /> B. Reports of Staff. <br /> Police Department Quarterly Report. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney discussed the Police Department’s first quarter report in detail with the Council. He reviewed several statistics regarding traffic enforcement. He explained calls <br /> and adult arrests were on the rise. It was noted that traffic enforcement was becoming a focus of the department. He was pleased to report all officers were doing a wonderful job <br /> enforcing traffic laws. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney commented 150 fifth grade students graduated from the DARE program again this year. He was proud that the Mounds View Police Department was able to offer this program <br /> to its students. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty believed in the value of the DARE program and the positive relationships that are built up between the local youth and the police department. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney thanked the students for completing the doghouse for Niko. He was pleased that the students could be involved in the Police Department’s new endeavor. He reported <br /> bullying was a major issue at the school this year and the department was continuing education on this matter. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney reviewed the Safe and Sober program stating the department would continue to hold saturation events to reduce drunk and impaired driving. Lastly, he commented on <br /> the department’s new K-9. The City was proud to have its own canine and congratulated Officer Ericson on his accomplishments with Niko. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller requested further information on the number of vehicles parked within the Public Works fence. Police Chief Kinney explained these vehicles were seized and forfeited <br /> vehicles. Unfortunately, the process to resolve some of the matters was lengthy. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller questioned if the Police Department had considered having the police officers wear cameras while on patrol. Police Chief Kinney stated this was a new program <br /> and additional manufacturers were coming out new camera models. He indicated the department would continue to monitor this technology. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller asked how vandalism in apartment complexes should be handled. Police Chief Kinney stated the department was not able to provide temporary surveillance cameras. <br /> He encouraged the local apartment complex managers to set up their own systems to assist with deterring vandalism. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty questioned why the numbers were up in the City of Mounds View. Police Chief Kinney stated the department was making more traffic stops and being proactive with
