Mounds View City Council Apri122, 2002 <br />Regular Meeting Page 6 <br />• <br />Cliff Pehler, President of AFSCME 14 said he hopes the City is able to reach an agreement on <br />the contract. He then said the union would send money and other contributions from other Labor <br />unions and said the support would be there as long as it takes. He further stated he thinks it may <br />be time for the City to step back from the brink to see if this is a fight it really wants to engage in <br />because there are 400,000 plus men and women in the union to support the employees of Mounds <br />View. He ended his comments by saying labor support is here, they do not threaten, they do not <br />beg and they will not forget. <br />5. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS <br />A. Update/Presentation by John Connelly, Executive Director of the Minneapolis <br />Metro North Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). <br />• <br />Mr. Connelly from the North Metro Convention and Visitor's Board thanked the City for its <br />participation in the Bureau and gave a brief status update on the Bureau's efforts to promote the <br />City of Mounds View. He also provided statistical information for 2001. <br />Council Member Stigney pointed out that the Knotty Pine had changed its name to Jakes and <br />asked whether the information would be updated. He also pointed out that the Best Steakhouse <br />is not on the list. <br />Economic Development Coordinator Backman indicated he had been going through the City's <br />business list and would provide an updated copy to Mr. Connelly. <br />Council Member Marty asked whether the organization would be contributing to the Festival in <br />the Park festivities as previously indicated. <br />Mr. Connelly indicated the contribution to a City festival was part of the agreement and <br />explained the only criteria for receiving the funds is that they be used to market the event. <br />6. CLOSED SESSION <br />MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Thomas. To Recess to Closed Session to Enter Into Labor <br />Negotiations. <br />Ayes - 5 Nays - 0 Motion carried. <br />• <br />Council recessed to closed session at 8:03 p.m. <br />Council reconvened at 9:33 p.m. <br />
