To Approve Consent Agenda Item G as Presented.
Council Member Marty said he was not sure that workers compensation insurance for Council
Members was necessary in light of the need to save money and cut taxes.
Council Member Stigney asked what other cities do for their elected officials.
Finance Director Hansen indicated he had not done a survey of area cities but noted the City he
last worked for covered their elected officials.
Council Member Stigney asked whether there had been any workers compensation claims
submitted to the City by Council Members.
Finance Director Hansen indicated he was not aware of any.
City Attorney Riggs indicated that the City's Ordinance requires that the City pay for this
insurance and noted an ordinance amendment would be needed if Council determines it does not
want to provide worker's compensation insurance for its Council Members.
Council Member Thomas asked if there would be legal liability for the City if Council Members
were not covered by worker's compensation.
City Attorney Riggs explained that worker's compensation shields the City from being sued
because it is the only recourse for an employee to recover monies for an injury.
Council Member Quick said he wanted to keep the worker's compensation insurance for Council
Members.
Ayes - 4 Nays - 1(Marty) Motion carried.

MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Thomas.
