Mounds View City Council February 24, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 11 <br />• Chief Sommer indicated that they are required to provide state identification. <br />Council Member Marty indicated that this system would make things much more efficient for <br />investigators and amount to a cost savings in time and man-hours. <br />Council Member Gunn asked if the Police Department has the equipment that residents can use <br />to engrave serial numbers. <br />Chief Sommer indicated he would check. <br />Council Member Stigney indicated the state of Florida had such a problem that they began <br />requiring thumbprints. <br />Chief Sommer indicated the system requires drivers license information. <br />Council Member Stigney asked the Chief to inquire about requiring thumbprints. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Stigney. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5955, a <br />Resolution Authorizing Automated Pawn Systems Participation and Agreement. <br />• Ayes - 4 Nays - 0 Motion carried. <br />9. REPORTS <br />Council Member Stigney indicated he went and looked at the Community Center and Mr. <br />Bradley showed him the system and the units behind the gymnasium were moved to the front. <br />Mayor Linke indicated that some of the existing equipment was used to make it work. <br />Council Member Gunn had no report. <br />Council Member Marty indicated that the City received $207,445 worth of services from <br />Northwest Youth and Family Services in return for its annual contract costs of $16,432. <br />Council Member Marty indicated that one person was caught for mail theft but told residents <br />mail theft is still high in Mounds View and the Police Department recommends dropping <br />outgoing mail at the post office rather than leaving it in the box. He then asked residents to be <br />diligent and report any suspicious behavior. <br />Council Member Marty indicated that windows of cars and homes are being shot out with BB <br />guns and asked residents to watch and report any suspicious behavior. <br />Council Member Marty indicated he had asked Julie Fleming Wolfe for information on the <br />Hammerschmidt and Kessel matters in January and still has not received it despite repeated <br />attempts to contact her for the information. <br />
