Mounds View City Council Apri114, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 14 <br />• Mayor Linke indicated that one of the first things he did as the new Mayor was ask Mr. Backman <br />what he thought about the program and was told that Mr. Backman feels it is a valuable program <br />for the City. <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that it is nice to have the new Mermaid facility to promote. <br />Mayor Linke asked what kind of promotions are being done with the Community Center. <br />Mr. Connelly indicated the Community Center is an area he would like to expand on this year <br />promoting it for wedding showers, day meetings and receptions. He then indicated that updated <br />pictures would be taken prior to the meeting with the meeting planners in the fall. <br />Aaron Backman indicated that the CVB has been very effective in the marketplace and was <br />recently awarded a National Award. <br />Mr. Connelly thanked Mr. Backman for the recognition but said it is an award for all the nine <br />cities not just CVB. <br />Council Member Marty asked if there is intent to expand the number of cities. <br />• Mr. Connelly indicated that Ham Lake has approached them. <br />Mr. Backman indicated that Ham Lake has only one property and it would not warrant hiring <br />additional staff. <br />Mr. Cormelly thanked the City for the support <br />B. Resolution No. 5966, a Resolution Approving the Purchase of a New Police <br />Squad Car. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5966, a <br />Resolution Approving the Purchase of a New Police Squad Car. <br />Council Member Marty asked whether the price included the police package, tax and license. He <br />then pointed out that the budgeted amount was $22,000 and the amount for approval is $20,877. <br />Chief Sommer indicated he believes the amounts include tax and the police package. <br />Council Member Marty asked for a status on the unmarked squad. <br />Chief Sommer indicated there are some cars without red lights on top of them. <br />. Council Member Marty asked if the City really needs all the police department staff vehicles <br />because the taxes and insurance for them are costly. <br />
